Sedus at Orgatec 2008: “Place 2.5” furnishing concept is a success factor in the "war for talent"

At this year’s Orgatec industry trade fair from 21-25 October 2008 in Cologne, Sedus will be bringing its “Place 2.5 – the new emotional office culture” to life with a range of new product innovations in a large trade fair exhibition spanning 1,300 m².

Office design is becoming an ever more important factor in the competition to recruit highly qualified employees. It is precisely these new, creative knowledge workers and high potentials who are increasingly demanding workplaces which can react flexibly to their requirements, permit both individual and group work, offer them rooms where they can retreat alone and rooms for communication and which also appeal to their emotions and senses. Sedus’ economic, aesthetic and functional answer is the holistic “Place 2. 5 – the new emotional office culture” concept with which Sedus continues to set new standards in the entire industry.

The “Place 2.5” concept goes far beyond just furniture and makes use of all the elements and technologies available for furnishing an emotional and atmospheric office: greenery, scent, acoustics, lighting and, of course, the perfect furnishings.

Sedus has a prominent location in the new Hall 8 (Stand B 50) at the Kölnmesse. A life-size, open-plan office is set out in which a complete company is housed on one floor. From the reception, through to the most diverse departments and fields of responsibility, from the director’s office with secretariat through to the bistro and showroom, the exhibition gives an impressive indication of just how pleasantly and atmospherically team-orientated work can be.

All items of office furniture exhibited at the stand are brand new to the trade fair and will be adopted into the series as of October. The most important innovations at a glance are:

Sedus crossline swivel chair with new “Similar” mechanism

With the patented “Similar” mechanism, Sedus is once again setting standards for the office furniture industry. It is based on the very latest findings by the Sedus ergonomics experts, who have been developing improved coordinated movements adapted to meet human needs since the foundation of the company in 1871. With “crossline”, Sedus is opening the door to a whole new sitting experience. The motor and centrepiece of the new swivel chair is an innovative mechanism which transforms sitting to a “perfect balance” experience and ensures previously unimaginable coordinated movements during dynamic sitting. The operating elements, which are also newly developed, allow the backrest pressure and the opening angle of the backrest to be set comfortably and intuitively.

The new “crossline” product family has five members: a swivel chair with a medium-height backrest, a swivel chair with a high backrest including a comfortable support for the neck, a conference swivel chair with high sitting comfort, a 4-leg model and a cantilever model as either a conference chair or visitor chair.

With “temptation”, Sedus is introducing a basic table range to the market which combines innovative design with intelligent technology and solid value for money.
The latest requirements of the European draft standard for office desking were all incorporated during the development phase. Indeed, Sedus temptation is the first product to be developed in line with this new EU standard and offers a high degree of ergonomics in as far as leg room and height adjustment are concerned. “temptation” is available in three base versions: with a set height of 720 mm, with an adjustable height between 680-760 mm using a spindle or the telescopically adjustable base version with a particularly generous adjustment range of 620-850 mm.

The elegant, external cross-rail frame is a particularly distinct design element. It allows the use of thinner, finer worktops, which are available in all the surfaces in the Sedus collection – from a noble real wood veneer to a robust and easy to care for laminate.

Sedus temptation’s wide range of table tops opens up a world of opportunities for workplace and conference solutions: team tables invite discussions, return tables are an extension to the workplace or meeting places and bench configurations stimulate the exchange of ideas. Adaptable screens offer privacy and soundproofing and are a welcome addition to the diverse technical optional features.

The informal, spontaneous exchange of knowledge between colleagues is the impetus for innovation: academic studies have proven this. Bistros, canteens and recreational areas thus take on a new meaning. With the “meet chair & table” range, Sedus offers the opportunity to create conversation areas so that they are both inviting and elegant. At the same time, “meet chair & table” also meets the high requirements on stability, durability and quality.

The “meet chair” family has five members: the “meet chair 4-leg chair” is an exceptionally comfortable chair with a graceful, chromed frame and a shell which is both robust and yet flexible. The chair can be stacked in numbers of up to eight. The one-piece shell is available in five different colours: white; black; anthracite; red and green. Felt upholstery offers additional sitting comfort and is also available in a range of colours.

Unlike the 4-leg chair, the “meet chair swivel chair” is height-adjustable. A robust, handy control allows individual setting of the seat height. The five-star base of injection moulded plastic has five feet and is available in anthracite or black. The “meet chair swivel chair” is suitable for use in personal consultations, discussions, conferences and for short periods of individual work.

The new tables are available in three versions: the “meet table bistro table” is height-adjustable and the square HPL table top is easy to clean. It can be stacked in numbers of up to five. In spite of its delicate appearance, the “meet table bistro table” is exceptionally stable.
The “meet table bistro table” is not only available in the stackable version. Two versions are available with round or square table tops. The base is formed by an aluminium five-star base.

The “meet table standing table” has a delicate, light appearance. Its three angled legs are linked together in a tidy knot. Folding the table top allows a number of tables to be stacked together, which saves space.
